Transferred money to the wrong account? Prepare records for bank follow-up and legal advice

Contact the bank before waiting for a perfect file

If you discover a transfer went to the wrong account, promptly contact the sending bank through an official channel. The Bank of Thailand recommends asking what documents the bank requires, since requirements can differ. Reporting begins coordination; it does not guarantee an immediate refund. This article helps organize follow-up and consultation records, not determine a case or legal deadlines.

Separate the intended payment from the actual transaction

Make a two-column summary. In the first, identify the intended recipient and reason for payment using available evidence. In the second, record the actual transaction, including date, time, amount, bank and reference. Copy from the records without guessing details the system does not show. If several transfers are involved, list them separately: some may be correct while others are not.

Keep originals separate from explanatory copies

Preserve the receipt or system-generated file unchanged, together with account records lawfully available to you. If you need annotations or redaction for an inquiry, use a copy and retain the original. Do not remove recipient details or references needed to connect the evidence to the actual transaction. Avoid posting slips containing personal information publicly to pressure a recipient before the facts are established.

Maintain a readable follow-up log

After notifying the bank, record the date, channel, case reference if provided, additional requests and the follow-up timing communicated to you. Separate acknowledgement from completed investigation or actual refund. When several parties communicate, identify the source and supporting record for each statement. Silence does not establish that a bank or recipient has accepted an allegation.

If unresolved, ask about next steps using the complete record

If tracing remains unresolved or a dispute arises, ask the bank to explain the status and available documents, then seek appropriate professional advice. Explain whether you made an input mistake or suspect deception, since the facts may require different examination. Do not assign an offence or commit to litigation costs based solely on an informal account. Do not give secrets to someone claiming they can pull the money back.

Prepare focused consultation questions

Bring a timeline, relevant transfers, original evidence and bank responses. Ask what still needs checking, which options exist, who must act and what costs apply. B Law Firm lists legal advice and civil litigation services, so these records can support a work-scope assessment. Organized evidence helps examination but does not guarantee recovery or any procedural outcome.
