After a civil judgment: what should you prepare for a lawyer's review?

Start with more than a simple win-or-lose label

After receiving a civil judgment, a short account that you won or lost may not be enough to decide what comes next. Bring the complete judgment and case information to a lawyer to examine the effect of each issue. This article helps prepare a consultation; it does not determine appeal rights, calculate deadlines or recommend a course of action without the case file.

Collect complete documents and confirm the case

Check the court name, case number, parties and page count. Keep accompanying orders or documents separated by type. Do not substitute a photograph of the last page or someone else's summary for the complete text. If material is missing, ask the responsible court or lawyer about copy-request channels and access eligibility. The official CIOS page offers ThaID login, but successful login should not be taken to mean automatic access to every case's documents.

Separate the court's decision from reasons you want reviewed

Make a two-part note. First identify pages or passages stating the outcome in the document. Then identify wording or reasoning you do not understand with a focused question, such as which document supports an amount or which party an order concerns. Do not alter the judgment's wording and send it as if it were the original. An accompanying note helps locate questions; it does not turn the recipient's views into findings in the case.

Connect questions to material already in the case

Collect the actual claim, defence, filed documents and records available to you. Make an index linking each question to a document. If information was found later, keep it separate with its discovery date and source, rather than making it appear previously filed. Let the lawyer assess relevance and the stage at which it may be used. This article does not suggest every new item of evidence can be used at the next stage.

Have important dates and immediate obligations checked

Provide the court's reading or order date, the date you received the copy and document-service events supported by records. Do not choose a convenient starting date for time calculation. Ask the lawyer to confirm available procedures, deadlines and how to address the judgment's effects in the meantime. Do not assume that seeking advice or preparing a challenge pauses every obligation. The answer depends on the case type and actual documents.

End the consultation with options and assigned tasks

Explain your objective and ask about feasibility, costs, work scope and missing documents. Record who does what and which matters still need checking, without assuming every case should be appealed. B Law Firm lists civil litigation and higher-court proceedings among its services, so this package can support a consultation. Reviewing the file helps assess options; it does not guarantee a changed judgment or the outcome you expect.
